Religion allows those furthest from God to feel closest to Him. Habitual activity often parades as godly activity. The power of religion resides in the intangible, the ethereal, the nuanced. A certain sound, a smell, an aura, a jargon shared by members of certain groups can awaken the religious spirit within. A feeling in the air at a certain time of the week can create euphoric comfort, joy, and peace. To attack religion is to attack the invisible because its roots cannot be traced to a verse or a building. The religious often talk about the Bible, but religion itself exists outside of the Bible—inserting itself into the deepest parts of our lives, clothing our minds with collective beliefs that warm our hearts.
